Where can I find the best by date on Romanoff Caviar? How do you read the date?

The date code is a production date, not a best by date. It is imprinted on the box over one of the images of caviar as well as printed in green ink on the glass jar. The date code is a Julian code and can be interpreted the following way:
Code: D1323019B

  • D = Batch Letter
  • 132 = Day of the year (out of 365; 132 = May 12)
  • 3 = year of production (2013); add 2 years for expiration date (2015)
  • 019 = last 3 digits of product UPC
  • B = Production Line

How long can I keep Romanoff Caviar after opening the jar?

After opening, we recommend refrigerating and consuming within 7 days.

Are there any special tools or preparation I should keep in mind when preparing caviar?

Caviar is fragile, so we recommend being very gentle with the product. We recommend using a mother-of-pearl, stainless steel or plastic implements for spooning, as sterling silver can impart a metallic taste.

What is an UPC Code?

  1. A UPC code is how Romanoff identifies each product. The UPC is the barcode on the packaging, devised of 12 digits. When contacting Romanoff regarding a product, please be sure to have this 12 digit number as it will make it easier to address your questions.
